Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of LitReviewer, including the website, application, APIs, public beta program, and related services.

Last updated: May 14, 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

LitReviewer is operated by Aneesh Kumar, operating LitReviewer as an individual ("LitReviewer," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, accessing LitReviewer, or using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use LitReviewer.

2. Public beta

LitReviewer is currently offered as a public beta. Beta features may be incomplete, unstable, modified, rate-limited, suspended, or discontinued at any time. We may change features, pricing, limits, or availability as we learn from beta usage.

You should keep your own copies of papers, notes, annotations, and other important content. Do not use LitReviewer as the only copy of critical research materials.

3. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use LitReviewer.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • You must notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. The service

LitReviewer helps users upload, import, organize, annotate, process, and discuss academic papers. Some features use AI systems to parse documents, retrieve relevant excerpts, draft summaries, suggest explanations, or participate in discussion threads.

AI-generated output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your purpose. You are responsible for reviewing outputs and deciding whether and how to rely on them.

5. Your content

"Your Content" means papers, files, annotations, comments, threads, feedback, prompts, and other materials you upload, submit, or create in LitReviewer.

You keep ownership of Your Content, subject to any rights held by third parties. You grant LitReviewer a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, process, transmit, display, and create technical or AI-generated derivatives of Your Content solely to operate, secure, support, and improve LitReviewer.

You represent that you have the rights needed to upload and process Your Content through LitReviewer and that your use does not violate law, third-party rights, institutional rules, publisher terms, confidentiality obligations, or these Terms.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use LitReviewer to:

  • Violate any law, regulation, contractual duty, or third-party right.
  • Upload or process content you do not have the right to use.
  • Upload malware or attempt to compromise LitReviewer or another system.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, overload, crawl, or abuse the service except as permitted by us in writing.
  • Bypass access controls, rate limits, billing controls, security controls, or usage limits.
  • Use LitReviewer to generate or distribute unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or abusive content.
  • Misrepresent AI-generated output as verified fact without appropriate review.
  • Use LitReviewer for regulated professional advice, including medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.

7. Payments, credits, and billing

LitReviewer may charge for usage through prepaid credits, beta credits, or other billing methods. Credits may be debited for paper processing, AI replies, model usage, and related infrastructure costs.

  • Payments are processed by Stripe or another third-party payment processor.
  • Prices, fees, and supported payment methods may change over time.
  • Credits are not a bank account, stored value account, gift card, or cash equivalent.
  • Credits are usable only within LitReviewer and are not transferable unless we say otherwise.
  • Beta credits, promotional credits, and free credits may expire or be revoked if misused.
  • Except where required by law or expressly stated by us, payments and credits are non-refundable.

If a payment succeeds but your LitReviewer balance is not updated, contact us at litreviewer.developers@gmail.com with the checkout session or receipt details so we can investigate.

8. Third-party services

LitReviewer relies on third-party services for hosting, authentication, storage, email, payment processing, AI/model processing, error reporting, logging, and infrastructure. Those services may have their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for third-party services except as required by law.

9. Intellectual property

LitReviewer, including the software, design, branding, and service structure, is owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you ownership of LitReviewer. You may not use our names, logos, or branding without permission.

10. Feedback

If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them without restriction or compensation.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using LitReviewer at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk for LitReviewer or others, failed to pay amounts owed, abused beta credits, or if continued access would create legal, security, or operational risk.

12. Disclaimers

LitReviewer is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and reliability.

We do not warrant that LitReviewer will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate or complete.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LitReviewer and its operators, affiliates, employees, contractors, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, or service interruption.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to LitReviewer will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid to LitReviewer in the three months before the claim or USD $100.

14. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless LitReviewer and its operators, affiliates, employees, contractors, and licensors from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising from Your Content, your use of LitReviewer, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of law or third-party rights.

15. Changes to the service or terms

We may modify LitReviewer or these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice through the service, by email, or by another reasonable method. Your continued use after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Courts with proper jurisdiction in California will have exclusive jurisdiction unless applicable law requires otherwise.
